Need a trip get away from Singapore City on weekends? Yes, Pulau Ubin! The smaller neighbouring island is worth exploring and offers a different experience. This boomerang shaped island lying in the Straits of Johore, has an area of 10.2 square kilometres and sits just off the north-eastern corner of mainland Singapore. A 10 minute bumboat ride (motorised sampan) from Changi Point Ferry Terminal will bring you onto the shores of Pulau Ubin. The standard ticket price means you will have to wait until the boat is full but if you are in a hurry, you can get the boat to leave immediately by paying a higher fare.

What you can do at the island?  Cycling is a great way to explore Ubin at your own pace. There are bicycles for rent to suit every preference. Mountain bikes, tandem bikes, tricycles, even bikes with side carts for babies or really lazy partners. But there are lots of slops and the roads are not as flat and nice to ride on compared to places like the East Coast Park. If you prefer to explore the island on foot you have to lace up those hiking shoes because there are plenty to see here. Take a 40 minute walk to Chek Jawa Wetlands where you will be greeted by gorgeous sea views, a natural rocky shore and a mangrove swamp at the end of a boardwalk. There are pretty sceneries and interesting plants along the way too. There are quite a few places where you can stop by for drinks along the routes.

Be warned that you could get used to the slow pace of life here – it is too easy to leave your worries behind.
