Bedok Asam Laksa – Singapore China Baijiu Pte Ltd

Bedok Asam Laksa

Bedok Asam Laksa

Laksa is a dish merged from Chinese and Malay elements which otherwise is also known as “Peranakan culture”. There are 2 main types of laksa – the Curry Laksa and the Asam Laksa. The Curry Laksa is more popular in Singapore while the Asam Laksa is more dominant in Penang, an island state north west of  Malaysia.

Here we take a look into the Asam Laksa. Asam Laksa is very addictive due to the spicy and sour taste of the fish broth. Tamarind is used generously in the soup base and hence the word Assam (meaning tamarind in Malay).

There is an Assam Laksa food stall located in the Bedok Hawker Center. The owner is a couple hailed from Penang Malaysia. The main ingredients for asam laksa include shredded fish and finely sliced vegetables including cucumber, onions, red chillies, pineapple, lettuce, common mint, daun kesum (Vietnamese mint or laksa mint) and pink bunga kantan (torch ginger). It is hard to find such good and fresh Asam Laksa in Singapore. The price is a little bit higher than other stalls but it is worth the cost especially when the dish is both nice and tasty.
